Carson Jazz Live
Year-round live jazz in Carson, with local artists on the bill and free seats for students and seniors at every show.
What it is
Carson Jazz Live is our flagship program and the front door to everything else we do: a recurring season of professionally produced live jazz performances held in Carson.
It runs in two formats. Community Concerts are free, outdoor and large-venue performances built for families and first-time jazz audiences. No ticket, no dress code, no barrier. Bring a chair. Signature Sessions are ticketed and intimate, seated performances in smaller rooms with the sound quality and focus the music deserves. Ticket revenue from the Sessions subsidizes the free programming.
Every bill pairs an established touring or regionally recognized artist with a Carson-area or South Bay ensemble. Local artists are paid performers on the bill, not unpaid openers.

- Straight-ahead, Latin jazz, soul-jazz, gospel-jazz, and fusion. Carson's cultural makeup should be audible in the programming.

Curation
Each bill pairs an established touring or regionally recognized artist with a Carson-area or South Bay ensemble. Local artists are paid performers on the bill, peers, not filler.

Student & Senior Access
Every performance, including ticketed shows, reserves a complimentary seat block for students and seniors, distributed through partner schools and senior centers.

Student Openers
Advanced students from Next Generation Jazz open selected shows, giving them a real audience and a real credit, not a recital.

Pre-Show Talks
A fifteen-minute introduction before select concerts: what to listen for, who the artist is, why the music matters. It removes the intimidation factor for newcomers.
- 05
Masterclass Clause
Every visiting artist teaches a workshop during their engagement. This is written into the contract, not requested as a favor.

Spring
Season opener and student showcase
The first bill of the year pairs a regionally recognized artist with a Carson-area ensemble, and puts Next Generation Jazz students on stage as openers.
Summer
Outdoor free community series
Free admission, city parks, no dress code, bring a chair. Our highest-attendance programming and the front door to everything else.
Fall
Signature Sessions, the ticketed listening-room run
Intimate seated performances in smaller rooms, with the sound quality and focus the music deserves. Ticket revenue subsidizes the free programming.
Winter
Holiday concert and annual fundraising gala
A gospel-jazz-leaning holiday program, followed by the year's one formal fundraising event.

Support the music
A student is waiting on an instrument that has not been bought yet.
That is not a metaphor. It is the actual state of the lending library. Donations pay working musicians, hold free seats for students and seniors, put instruments in young players' hands, and record the elders while there is still time. In that order.
